I love the colors in our kitchen rug and decided to use the teal and lime combo for my table runner. Our trip to IKEA not only outfitted our new office and a paint project, it also supplied the basic runner for this project. I picked up ribbon and buttons at Hobby Lobby.
In theory I liked the idea of using a lot of buttons. After seeing it all laid out, it looked a little too kitchy for our formal dining room. I decided to stick with just the ribbon and the two ornate green buttons. They were my favorites anyway.
1. Lay out your design.2. Using a low temp gun, hot glue ribbon using small amounts of glue to secure to the runner.
3. Wrap ribbon around the edges and glue down.
4. Hot glue buttons....AND done! Easy enough, right?
On the topic of seasonal decor... Are you a "Martha" (or related to one)?

So cute!! And simple! Thanks for the inspiration, I think I'm going to give it a try :)
ReplyDeleteLove your table runner! It's funny you should mention not decorating for holidays, I wrote about that today as well!

Like you, I'm not a "Martha." Glad to know I'm not the only one! Love your blog, I check it everyday!
OK, great tutorial and super cute runner. But, I have to ask, where did you get the rug? I love it!!
ReplyDeleteNice table runner. Unfortunately, in my younger years I was a "Martha". Nowadays, I try to steer clear of seasonal items, but I do use a lot of my old decorations. Truthfully, "they don't make them like they used to", so your smart not to have to store a whole bunch of decorations! lol!
ReplyDeleteI am very far from being a Martha at all.
ReplyDeleteThis runner is simple and elegant. A combination I love. Nice job!
Jennifer, the rug was from Marshalls. I know Urban Outfitters has some rugs in the same size and style.
ReplyDeleteHeather, what should we call you"...a "reformed Martha"?
Thanks Elizabeth:)
LeahJo, welcome to the "unMartha" club.
Heather!! I just laugh every time I see that you have yet another thing that I have in my own home. I bought that exact same rug a week ago! However I returned it bc of the smell. I was so sad but mine smelled like mildew..YUCK so it had to go :( Seriously girl if we lived in the same city we could do some serious damage at HomeGoods! Cute runner too!
ReplyDeleteNice job cute runner I am 50/50 on the Martha thing I love her and wish I could have as much energy as she!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! I also have been feeling like the seasonal decorations are too much! They take up too much space and the taking them out of storage, decorating, putting back in storing can be overwhelming, especially with two toddlers! Love the idea of decorating for the seasons more with colors in mind. Came out looking great!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up with me today!
Beautiful rug for your color combinations! The runner turned out so nicely -- easy and elegant are a great combination! Like those buttons, too. I would love it if you would consider linking to Busy Monday at A Pinch of Joy, a Sunday through Thursday link party for ideas that make life easier, better and more fun!
ReplyDeleteI also love your kitchen rug. Could you share where you found it? Thank you :)
ReplyDeleteThe rug was purchased at Marshall's, but I hear it was at Home Goods as well.
ReplyDeleteHi Heather! I just wanted to let you know I am featuring your runner tomorrow on my It's a Piece O' Cake Linky Party! {http://lovingthiscrazylife-melissa.blogspot.com/}
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Melissa;)
