Fall Teacher Gifts

September 18, 2012

Hey friends, Tan here from Squirrelly Minds. Did you know, Heather and I are both teachers? Yup, it's one of the reasons we bonded so quickly (that and several other similarities). So Heather will probably agree with me when I let you in on a little secret: The first month of the teaching year is the most hectic and complex. You're getting to know the kids and trying to figure out teaching methods that work for everyone. You're establishing routines they all can manage, and you're implementing management tricks for kids with some 'fun' behaviours, all while getting the curriculum in there.

So it's busy. It's common for parents and children to give their teacher a gift at the end of the year to thank them for all the work they've done. Why not flip things around? Surprise your teacher with a treat this month to thank them for all the work they are currently doing, and put a little rainbow in their 10 hour day.

Who doesn't love post-it notes? Especially teachers (and we go through a lot in the year). These cute post its from Etsy shop Paper Pudding are sweet and very useful.

It's no secret teachers spend a lot of their own money on supplies. Help them out by giving a package of stickers, pencils, or if yours is a primary teacher, make them a bunch of playdough. It's cheap, fun, and will be greatly appreciated.

These cute personalized cards by Etsy shop Flutter Bye Notes will even bring a smile on your face when your teacher writes a note home on one.

You really can't go wrong with a big bag of coffee or tea. We need all the caffeination we can get this time of year.

So August/September is ours, what's the most hectic time at your job and what to you do to relax and manage?

  1. I'm a teacher too, so I agree with now being super hectic and busy! It is a nice surprise when you get an early, unexpected gift: one of my students brought me a movie (Chances Are) for a first week of school gift. (Okay, it was my nephew, but he's still my student, so it still counts, right?!) Love the little gifties you showcased- those post its are adorable! Good luck to both of you with your new kiddos! I hope you each have a fantastic school year.

  2. Tan, I loved reading your guest post, and Heather, it's nice to have discovered your blog through Tan! I would imagine that the whole school year is hectic and busy... I can barely manage my twins sometimes let along a whole classroom full of kids! Great gift ideas, and I love how you included Stumptown which is a local favorite here in Portland. :)
