Felt Barrette for Fall

September 27, 2012

Hello and happy fall! It's Mareth from Lime Riot here to share a quick idea for adding a splash of autumn to any outfit. I love all of the warm colors and crisp smells of this season. It baffles my sunshine obsessed hubby but I'm always very happy to put away my summer sandals and pull out my boots and shawls.

Inspired by my favorite time of year and the folk art quilts of Sue Spargo, I created this simple felt leaf barrette for pairing with my fall wardrobe.

I recommend using wool or wool blends when working with felt. The colors are divine and it's sturdier than acrylic craft felt so it holds up well to stitching. Of course, craft felt is an affordable alternative that would also work for a project like this.

After cutting the shapes I wanted from the felt, I added simple embroidered details and glued the final leaf to a hair clip. You could also stitch something like this to a headband or glue on a pin and wear it as a brooch. The possibilities are endless!

I'm already planning some other clip designs for Halloween! I think these make for a fun and easy way to add a festive touch to any outfit. Enjoy the season!!
