- Book pages or scrap book paper
- Alphabet stamps (optional)
- Scrap paper
- Sewing machine
Step 1: Create the name card
I chose to stamp the name (my hubby's in this case) with alphabet stamps onto a piece of card stock, but you could also hand write or even print your names off. I stitched the name to a small piece of linen and then glued that to another piece of card stock. You can do as much or as little with this step as you like. It would be fun to coordinate the colors with the rest of your table. Once you're happy with the name card, set it aside and save it for later.
Step 2: Write your appreciation fortunes
Come up with a few things you want to thank your guest for and write them down on small strips or scraps of paper. Position them in the middle of the book page or scrap book paper that you'll be using for your pocket and place the other page on top to make a sandwich.
Step 3: Stitch your pocket together
Stitch around the outside of the pocket you just put together.
Step 4: Perforate the pocket
To make your pocket easier for your guests to open, perforate one side. Remove the top and bobbin thread from your sewing machine. Push one of the short sides of your pocket through the machine as if you were sewing it with thread.
This will leave a series of holes in the paper. You'll also want to cut one end of the row of holes you just made so that your guests will know where to pull and the thread at that spot is snipped.
Step 5: Glue your name card to your pocket
Attach your name card to the pocket that you've just stitched up! I used rubber cement but any glue would be fine. Now, set the table and make your guests feel extra loved and appreciated!
