I'm going to be honest; I could sit down with a block of cream cheese and a spoon and do quite a bit of damage. That creamy little white block wrapped in silver foil. Just like a present....mmm. You almost can't go wrong with any recipe that calls for it. Then there's dips. I could survive off of dips. A few years back a conversation about our love of dips led a group of my coworkers to create and declare an annual "Dip Day". We all made our favorite dips and
CREAMY PESTO DIP (AKA: The easiest dip you'll ever make.)1. Mix 8 ounces of softened cream cheese with 6 ounces of pesto (store bought or freshly made). Add cracked black pepper if desired.
2. Seve with fresh veggies, baguette slices, or even bagel chips. This is also a great sandwich spread.
SWEET SOPAPILLA DIP
SWEET SOPAPILLA DIP
1. Combine 8 ounces softened cream cheese with 1
tablespoon + 1 teaspoon honey, 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon of sugar, and 1/2
teaspoon of cinnamon. Combine ingredients and heat in the microwave for 30 seconds.
2. Serve warm with honey wheat pretzel twists or fresh fruit.
BACON JALAPENO GOAT CHEESE BALL
1. Combine 8 ounces cream cheese, 6 ounces goat cheese, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, one finely minced jalapeno (seeds removed), and a pinch of salt.
2. Wrap in plastic and shape into a ball. (It will be soft, so it won't form a perfect ball.) Refrigerate for 20 minutes.
3. In the meantime, fry 8 slices of bacon. (I made mine in the oven using this method.) Remove cheese from the fridge and reshape/roll ball if needed.
4. Crumble bacon and spread out on cutting board. Remove cheese from plastic and roll in the bacon. Serve with herbed crackers or pretzel crisps.
2. Serve warm with honey wheat pretzel twists or fresh fruit.

A Few Ramblings...
I watched Drew Barrymore's interview with Oprah last night. I just love her. I used to think she was kind of silly and fun, but the last few years I've come to really admire Ms. Barrymore. It seems like she's an actress who doesn't take herself or her success too seriously. She appears genuinely comfortable in her own skin regardless of the pressures in her industry to be a waif. One of my favorite lines in the whole interview was when she said she was surprised her husband ended up marrying her because he should be with "a good girl from the Upper East Side who has nice arms." She shared about the complicated relationship with her mother and how she has set boundaries. Even though she's obviously been through a lot in her early years, she doesn't act like a victim. Oh, and she said the only way she can describe the feeling of love for daughter is that it's like the biggest crush you've ever had. I thought that was perfect.

Stu and I are finally figuring out our design style together. Turns out, we like a lot of the same things. This was not the case 5 years ago. (Let's just say that the painting in my living room used to be a creepy looking Asian lady and cherry blossom tree-his pick.) I've pretty much chosen every piece of furniture in our house. Lately however, we've found ourselves liking a lot of the same pieces. My taste in home decor has changed so much in the last three years, but my house isn't really reflecting that change yet. I ran across Modern Finding's site this weekend, and we both like so many aspects of this house. It's a lot more fun having a husband who is somewhat into furniture's aesthetic and not just its price tag. He even sent me pics at work last week of some mid century chairs he spotted while thrifting. It was pretty much the equivalent of a love letter to me...

When my husband likes the same things that I do, it makes my heart sing! Maybe it shouldn't be so important, but it makes me happy :)
ReplyDeleteThe dips look DElicious!
It's a reason to celebrate in our house! What better way to celebrate than to...eat dips??
DeleteI too love dips! Hot dips, cold dips, sweet... hot... mmm, cream cheese. Also, my husband and I could not be further apart in our style choices. After almost 8 years together you would think we would be starting to meet half way... but no. Glad to hear there is a chance for us yet! :)
ReplyDeleteThere's hope, Meg! We went from shabby chic(me) and Asian boldness (him-yuck...) to mid century modern/farm house/Danish. (If that's even a style.)
