Hello there. I'm Heather. By day, I'm a 5th grade teacher 6th grade English teacher. I cook, craft, and blog every other waking moment.
I'm married to Stu, a dashing fellow who puts up with a lot from me. Introduced by a mutual friend playing "Yenta", we emailed everyday for months before we ever met. After our first date, we were both convinced it would never work. We're so glad first impressions are sometimes wrong.
We parent two terribly spoiled pups, Marty McFly and Brooke Shields. Their cuteness lets them get away with a lot. A couple years ago we bought our first house, a 1940's Tudor style cottage. We love our house...when nothing breaks. We're tackling one repair and project at a time.
Life can be unpredictable...Sometimes little lovelies get us through a tough day. Whatever your day brings, I hope that at least you have a good laugh and a great meal. Maybe you'll find something here to help you do that. If you're so inclined, drop me a note. It makes this huge web feel just a tad smaller.

Heather,
ReplyDeleteI feel inspired, jealous and now embarrassed. You are Amazing!!! Thank you for making this blog for me to live vicariously through you!
Loving your blog Heather, so glad you joined the blogging community...I can't wait to follow along.
ReplyDeleteChristy and Elizabeth, thanks so much for the kind words! It's encouraging to hear in the "baby stages" of the blog.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are precious! And by the way... I'm in LOVE with the outside of your house! I'm a sucker for old abodes, so we're gonna be good friends! xo
ReplyDeleteWell hello there! May I introduce myself,I am Michelle from a fabulous place called Saltdean, near Brighton on the South Coast of England. I am so please to have stumbled upon your sweet corner of the web! I am mummy to two gorgeous girlies, wife to a brilliant designer and proud owner of Pebbles Homestyle & giftstore (www.pebbles.me.uk)
ReplyDeleteYour piece on how you like all things British, to live by the sea and love French music made me smile as I am listening to the sound track of Amelie in my cute shop by the sea in England! I was thinking how you would probably be really good company here! I am about to embark on a blog myself so would appreciate any tips....Hope to keep intouch! Michelle x
Michelle (USA) & Michelle (UK), thanks for the kind words!
ReplyDeleteMichelle Pebbles, I am grinning ear to ear thinking about your lovely shop! I have been to England once and didn't want to leave. I secretly chose my house because it reminded me (in a tiny way) of the Cotswolds. As far as tips, I am such a newbie I'm just learning as I go! Please do keep in touch and let me know when you have your blog up and running. Your shop site looks beautiful.
Hello, Heather! I'm so glad you commented on my blog today and thank you for following! I've read you're bio and you're right--we are very similar! I am obsessed with all things Scottish, however, so maybe we're just a bit different. =) I absolutely adore your cottage and am very jealous. It is exactly the type of house I want when the hubs and I are ready to take on an old place. I can't wait to learn more about you and see more of your blog. I'm happy to "meet" you!
ReplyDeleteDear Heather,
ReplyDeleteI met you last night at Molly's Bachelorette party - my name is Kelly, I was in black shorts, I love food blogs. I have been on your blog for 5 minutes and I absolutely love it!!! It was great to meet you and I will see you at the wedding!
Sincerely,
Kelly Weir
Thanks Kelly! It was great to meet you too. I'm so glad Molly has friends as fabulous as you ladies in her life. I know the wedding will be GORGEOUS; I can't wait. PS-What food blogs do you love?
ReplyDeleteWow, I love how you described the name of your blog. My blog is called Silver Boxes & that's how I feel about it too. A place to collect all kinds of lovely things, thoughts, plans, & ideas. I'm loving yours!

ReplyDeleteThank you Meg! So glad you're following:)
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog and LOVE it! I'm excited to keep up :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Cheryl! Welcome, welcome.
ReplyDeleteHeather, Love your blog...so happy a friend posted your link. Looks like we both began blogs this past summer. I have a little European home decor & garden shop in CA. I love English and French styles as well. Sounds like you would love the holiday CD "French Christmas" if you don't have it already.
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays, ~Jen
Jen, what a dream job! I'll have to check out that CD and head over to your blog. Thanks so much for taking the time to say "hello". Cheers!
ReplyDeleteOk....Just what I need...Another LOVELY blog...I found you via Made By Girl and I'm really glad I stopped by. I will definitely be back.
ReplyDeleteHi Heather! I'm now following your blog.
ReplyDeleteThe sign you have on your desk for your students is awesome. Children should always know this and know they have the option to speak up if they are not feeling appreciated.
I am too trying to challenge myself in cooking more healthy to lose weight, but also for my family's and my health overall.
Look forward to reading! :)

I came to this spot via Luckett's--it is wonderful! I LOVE the letter you've written to your students--I teach 8th and wouldn't be able to get away with it, but I'm going to share it with our 6th grade teachers. I blog in a similar vein--projects, cooking (mostly with alcohol--I teach 8th grade, remember) and general craftiness. (You can interpret that any way you like.)

You seem ABSOLUTELY fabulous! I just discovered you this morning when I was perusing through multiple link parties. So glad I found you!
ReplyDeleteYour newest fan,
Cathy
I love, love, love the Spool seats idea. I am going to try my best to copy. I'm in the process of making me a "woman cave". LOL! And that would be an excellent touch. The only problem I'm running into is finding he spools. Any suggestions?? Love your website. Keep the great ideas coming.
ReplyDeleteDJuana
Thanks so much DJuana. I got mine when my school was rewired. I would say check in with your local hardware store to see if they have extras when wires or chords are used. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I stumbled upon your blog! In describing yourself I feel like we have a lot of 'loves' and ideas in common, and though we're not to 5th grade yet, I thank and applaud you for being what seems like a wonderful teacher. Yours is truly a selfless and sometimes thankless job I'm sure. (Kind of like a stay at home mom!:) I kid, but love all your creativity and projects. Cheers!
ReplyDelete(I may be back one day to pick your brain about food&organics)
Angie,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the sweet note. One day I hope I'm a stay at home mom who can at least be taken for granted by kids that are actually mine:)
As far as organics, I can't say enough good about them. Thanks for stopping by and saying "hello".
-H
So I too hail from Texas and moved to MO... hoping to find a teaching job in the fall...fingers crossed. Keep the fabulous posts coming. Love your ideas for the classroom!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the job hunt; that can really try your patience! thanks for stopping by:)
ReplyDeleteI am a new teacher (as of next school year) and have been scouring blogs for teacher and classroom ideas. Enter where I came across your blog. Until recently, I was oblivious to the blogger world. In the past month I have read more teachers blogs than I can count and it wasn't until yours that I realized how much I want to create my own! Besides teaching, I love cooking and crafting any DIY project and thrive at flea markets and yard sales. You can see then, why I am obsessed with your fabulousness!! I would love to blog about my journey as a new teacher and share pictures of my classroom decor. How did you get started? I've looking into blogspot.com but haven't gotten very far. Any tips? Thanks for making my days!
ReplyDeleteCharity-congrats on your new job! Thank you so much for the sweet words. Blogging has been such an adventure. You should TOTALLY chronicle your first year in the classroom and beyond. I think a lot of people could relate. You'd be surprised how fast you "meet" people with similar interests.
ReplyDeleteI started on Blogger (that's the host for .blogsopt.com blogs that you see.) It's apparently one of the easier blogging programs to use. There's still a learning curve, but I think it should be relatively easy to get going. When you get your blog going, shoot me an email. I'd love to check it out!
I somehow happened across your blog... you know the story, how one blog leads to another blog, etc. And then I saw your picture of Ozark Mountain Creamery milk and got more curious, especially after the home tour.
ReplyDeleteI too live in a 1940s bungalow in historic Center City in Springfield, MO! So nice to have inspiration from a local!
Kim- that's great! Thanks so much for saying "hi". Shoot me an email. I'd love to talk specifics; we could be practically neighbors.
ReplyDeleteI found your blog through pinterest today - my husband and I are expecting a baby girl in August and I just love your friend's nursery you wrote about recently. I will probably use some ideas form that nursery for our own!
ReplyDeleteI'm also a teacher (6th grade) and I love what you've done with your classroom!
Thanks for all the great inspiration!
~Robyn

Heather, I've been following your blog for several months now and am really enjoy it. Thank you for your great ideas and insights.
ReplyDeleteAm I correct in remembering a post about your husband's special dietary needs? I've been searching your site and can't find it so I may be mistaken. I only ask because my brother has recently been placed on a gluten free diet and I'd like to refer his wife directly to that post.
Thanks, again.

Hey Heather. I nominated you for The Sunshine Award! http://severalstarrynights.wordpress.com/2012/05/31/the-sunshine-award/
ReplyDeleteHi Heather! I'm Weiya, blogger over at Enjoyer of Grace. :) So happy to have found your blog and love your classroom makeover! I use to teach third grade before I had my little boy. Seeing your room totally made me miss my kids! Hope to get to know you more and I look forward to reading more posts!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I love that picture of your living room(?)Your pillow combinations are adorable! Do you have a post displaying your other favorite spaces in your home?
Um...never mind! Just saw your link above with the room tours! Can't wait to go check it out now! :)
ReplyDeleteJust found you on CG link up. Love your blog. Love your puppies! Beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteHi Heather,
ReplyDeleteYou're inspiring! I'm finishing up my last semester of college and wondering what the next step is, worrying that I will have to give up my hobbies in pursuit of a "big girl job." I'm so glad to see someone who is an accomplished professional and pursuing her passions at the same time. Love the blog!
Thanks!
Courtney
Hi Courtney. I'm glad you found me:) It can definitely be a challenge balancing both at times. One pays the bills, and the other keeps me inspired. Neither are something I can drop! It is possible to do both. (Sometimes sleeping may take a backseat.) Congrats on finishing school-almost there!
DeleteHeather, Everytime I come back I find wonderful things.... must come back more often. This time your layered Hummus recipe, can hardly wait to taste it.
ReplyDeleteYou have such a warm friendly blog, thank you for sharing, Kay
Lovely blog! Your photos are so. good. And I love the house tour! (Particularly the open shelving in the kitchen and the color palette in the master.) Keep up the good work and inspiration!
